Prophet One is pleased to have four distinguished advisors providing insight, guidance and direction to the healthcare practice. The Board of Advisors was established to assure Prophet One provides strategic services which address challenges resulting from the transformation sweeping the healthcare industry today. The Prophet One Board of Advisors is comprised of Chuck Christian, Steve Cosler, Dr. Michael Perez and Dr. Todd Rowland.
Chuck Christian, FCHIME, FHIMSS
Charles E. (Chuck) Christian, FCHIME, FHIMSS is the Chief Information Officer of the Good Samaritan Hospital, located in southwest Indiana. Christian is responsible for all information technology activities throughout the enterprise; which includes Good Samaritan Hospital, Samaritan Center, Good Samaritan – Lincoln Trail Hospice, as well as outpatient/outreach clinics. Mr. Christian is serving his 21st year in this role and his 39th year in healthcare.
Mr. Christian is a Fellow of the Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society (HIMSS) and is a Past Chair of the Board of Directors for this organization. Additionally, he is a Fellow and charter member of CHIME (College of Health Information Management Executives) and served on the CHIME BOD from 2003 through 2004 during which time he chaired the Membership Committee. Chuck is a charter member of the re-established Indiana Chapter of HIMSS and has served as a BOD member from 2000 - 2009. He served as a member of the Executive Advisory Board for Advance for Health Information Executives magazine and is currently serving on the KLAS Advisory Group and the CDW Healthcare CIO Advisory Council. Chuck is serving on the Board of Directors of the Indiana Health Informatics Corporation by appointment of Indiana Governor Mitch Daniels. He was recently asked to join the AHA Strategic Development Advisory Committee as a charter member. Chuck, along with co-authors Judy Kirby and Steve Bennett, received the 2010 CHIME Collaboration Award for their work “Make IT Known – Marketing Strategies and Case Studies in the Healthcare Environment.” Chuck recently was named as the recipient of the 2010 John E. Gall, CIO of the Year Award presented jointly by HIMSS and CHIME. He studied natural sciences at the University of Alabama in Birmingham, and holds a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from Lacrosse University.
Steven D. Cosler
Steven D. Cosler is an operating partner with Water Street Healthcare Partners, a strategic private equity firm focused exclusively on healthcare. Water Street’s team of healthcare executives invest their time to lend experience and insight to build market-leading companies of lasting value. The firm’s companies are leaders in key growth sectors within medical and diagnostic products, specialty distribution, life sciences and specialty healthcare services.
Mr. Cosler offers a unique combination of senior management and operational experience in specialty pharmacy, specialty distribution, outsourced payer services and technology. Prior to joining Water Street, he was the president and CEO of Priority Healthcare Corporation, a Fortune 1000 company focused on distributing and managing biopharmaceutical therapies. Steve helped lead the company’s successful initial public offering, as well as numerous strategic initiatives that contributed to the company’s robust growth and ultimate sale to Express Scripts. Mr. Cosler also held executive positions with CoreSource, Inc., one of the nation’s largest third-party administrators of employee health benefits. Previously, he was an executive with First Benefit Corporation, where he was instrumental in leading the company’s merger with CoreSource. Steve also achieved a distinguished career with IBM Corporation, where he helped spearhead the company’s entry into consulting services in the Midwest. Within the Water Street portfolio, Steve serves as the chairman of Access MediQuip and New Century Health and as a director of CareCentrix and HealthPlan Holdings Inc. He also serves as a director of Claymore Securities and SXC Health Solutions (NASDAQ: SXCI).
Among his civic contributions, Steve serves on the board of directors of Opportunity International, one of the world’s largest microfinance organizations dedicated to creating jobs, stimulating small business and strengthening communities among the working poor. He also co-founded and serves as chairman of Elevate Orlando, an organization teaching values, leadership and life management skills to high-risk students in urban Orlando high schools. Steve received a bachelor’s degree in industrial management from Purdue University.
J. Michael Perez, MD
Dr. J. Michael Perez, after a distinguished medical career in the state of Indiana, is now a retired urologist. He received a bachelor’s degree from Miami University and furthered his education by attending Indiana University where he received his medical degree in 1973. After completing his residency at Indiana University Hospital, Michael served many Indiana patients through his relationship with several central Indiana hospitals including: Lafayette Home Hospital, St. Elizabeth Hospital Medical Center, Reid Memorial Hospital, Fayette Memorial Hospital, Randolph County Hospital and Henry County Hospital.
Dr. Perez maintains his affiliation with several medical societies including the Fellow American College of Surgeons, the North Central Section – American Urological Association, Chicago Urological Society, the American Medical Association and the Wayne-Union Medical Society. In addition to serving on the Prophet One Healthcare Board of Advisors, Michael serves as a director on several community boards including the Board of Directors for the Civic Hall Associates, the Red Devil Pride Athletic Booster Club and the Richmond YMCA. Dr. Perez and his wife Nancy enjoy spending time with their children and grandchildren while splitting time between homes in Richmond, Indiana and Sarasota, Florida.
Todd Rowland, MD
Dr. Todd Rowland is a proven thought leader and practitioner within the physician and health care communities as it relates to the development and implementation of electronic solutions. Dr. Rowland is recognized as a demonstrated leader in the national medical informatics arena and stays current on issues being addressed across the country in regard to medical informatics. Todd has been recognized nationally for his leadership in the area of Health Information Exchange (HIE), most recently being honored by the Association of Medical Directors of Information Systems in 2010.
In addition, Dr. Rowland brings over 15 years experience as a practicing physician, ensuring a practical understanding of the health care system and workflow issues. As a result of his experience as a practicing physician and understanding of day-to-day challenges, combined with his knowledge of and enthusiasm for electronic solutions to health care problems, Todd provides expert advice to clients regarding IT enterprise planning, health care community planning, physician-hospital strategy development, and electronic health record implementation. Additionally, he has demonstrated a strong fundraising capacity for large scale IT projects. Todd currently serves as the network director for three active HIT / HIE (Health Information Technology / Health Information Exchange) grant projects with Health Resources and Services Administration and Health and Human Services. Dr. Rowland has forged cross-region partnerships with other HIE’s to leverage resources and funding, most notably with HealthBridge of Cincinnati, Ohio. Todd is a graduate of Indiana University Medical School and completed a post doctoral fellowship in Medical Informatics at Harvard/MIT, Division of Health Sciences and Technology.
